I’m Temitayo Olukayode, a PhD candidate at the University of North Carolina and the researcher behind Rethinking African Disasters. My work explores how Nigerians experienced, interpreted, and remembered disasters and how these events shaped their relationships with the state.
Through this website, I bring archival records into conversation with oral histories, poetry, popular culture, and maps. My aim is to make space for multiple voices, particularly community perspectives that can be difficult to hear in official accounts. I invite you to explore these histories and reflect on whose experiences shape our understanding of disaster.
